Former Zimbabwe minister Nyasha Chikwinya evicted from house

Former Zimbabwe’s Women Affairs minister Nyasha Chikwinya has been booted off her farm by youths working with Mama Mafuyana Housing Co-operative members who want the offer letter issued to her by the government nullified.

HARARE – Zimbabwe’s former women’s affairs minister, Nyasha Chikwinya, has been kicked out of her farm by youths working with members of the Mama Mafuyana Housing Cooperative, who want the letter of offer the government handed to her rescinded.

The former minister recently filed an emergency petition to evict the invaders, accusing Boniface Mutize, McDonald Gonzo and Piason Sadondo, all members of the Mama Mafuyana housing cooperative, of illegally entering the LBM farm in Borrowdale, Harare.

Chikwinya said on December 19, 2017 that the housing association Mama Mafuyana, through Mutize, had issued a subpoena against her and two other people for a declaratory injunction that the letter of offer that had been given to her submitted by the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement was invalid.

The former minister said Mutize, Gonzo and Sadondo stormed her farm where she lives in the farmhouse on July 22, 2019 with the help of unidentified youths. This despite the ongoing procedures.

“They forcibly closed the premises and barricaded the road leading to my apartment. In addition, the respondents (Mutize, Gonzo and Sadondo) provided security and set up barracks in a typical takeover of my farm, leaving me destitute,” she said.

“The defendants robbed me in violation of the law of the land. You took the law into your own hands. Based on the foregoing, I address the Court through the Emergency Chamber Book. The case is pending.
