LILONGWE – Malawi Education minister Agnes NyaLonje has challenged the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) member states to make massive investment in education training and Science, Technology and Innovation for the future.

NyaLonje said this on Friday, June 17th, 2022 during the official opening of the joint meeting of SADC Ministers responsible for Education and Training and Science, Technology and Innovation at Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in Lilongwe.

According to the minister, education emphasis on human capital and skills development is a prerequisite to addressing many of the ills affecting other sectors of society.

“Pre-primary, primary and secondary education, combined with Technical and Vocational training and higher education could lead to a scientific and technically literate population that could participate in and develop a knowledge- based economy,” NyaLonje said.

Minister NyaLonje highlighted that there is need to be making the economic case for these home truths both within their countries and regionally and globally in order to generate large scale investment in education training, science, technology and innovation systems.
