End of Road for 'Corrupt' Obadiah Moyo

Zimbabwe government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday evening fired Health minister Obadiah Moyo who is out on Z$50,000 bail after being arrested over a US$560 million Covid-19 procurement scam that saw a shelf company invoicing government an inflated US$28 for disposal masks.

Zimbabwe’s government, led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, sacked Health Minister Obadiah Moyo on Tuesday night, who is being released on Z$50,000 bail after being arrested over a Z$560 million Covid-19 supply scam dollars that a government company charged an inflated $28 for mask disposal.

Moyo was removed from his post “with immediate effect for conduct inappropriate for a government minister”, according to a press release from the chief secretary.

Meanwhile, Delish Nguwaya, the national representative of the Drax International company at the heart of the scandal, received Z$50,000.

Judge Kwenda appeared to dismiss the allegations, saying that “a supplier does not commit fraud by overcharging their goods” and that if there was any form of deception, it was the result of a “procurement process defective”.

He also questioned why Nguwaya’s Albanian partners would be considered accomplices even though he “is not sourcing for Zimbabwe either.”

Legal experts have criticized the charges against Nguwaya, saying they are deliberately incompetent and designed to appease public anger.
