SALIMA – President Lazarus Chakwera has commended the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) for cultivating lasting partnership with other institutions of higher learning in Malawi to ensure there is leadership quality.
He said this after conferred academic honours upon senior officers from MDF who have attained Post – Graduate Diplomas in Strategic Studies and passed Staff Certificates at the newly-established Command and Staff College in Salima.
“As per the country’s long term development vision, Malawi Vision 2063, we are challenged to build a knowledge – based economy that incorporates participation of all key institutions, the military inclusive,” Chakwera said.
MDF has partnered institutions such as the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), to ensure that the military tags along with everyone in building a new Malawi.
President Chakwera said it is a step in the right direction when the military officers receive modern leadership knowledge to think critically and strategically in devising solutions to national problems.
“The inaugural graduation of the first cohort, comprising Grade ll Senior Command and Staff Officers, is evidence that my administration remains committed in building a modern military that plays its rightful role in national development,” he added.
