HARARE — Zimbabwean government has come under fire for working with two local firms in a sordid deal that would result in the supply of laptops and desktop computers to parliament business units at exorbitant prices.
Blinart Investments P/L, one of the companies currently being criticized publicly had been contracted to supply 173 laptops at $9,200 each which translates to US$1,602,755.77 in total.
In recent communication with the Clerk of Parliament, the Treasury Department is said to have refused to honor the outrageous deal after finding the devices were ridiculously expensive.
According to the letter from Finance and Economic Development ministry permanent secretary George Guvamatanga, Blinart Investments P/L won the tender to supply 173 laptops to Parliament while another company, Mid-End Computers and Hardware won a tender to supply 79 desktop computers.
Mid-End Computers and Hardware is said to have quoted the desktop computers above US$3,000 each.
Guvamatanga ordered the bid rescinded and further blacklisted the two companies from being considered for future government contracts.
