ABIDJAN – In a significant political move, President Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast has taken the decision to remove the country’s Prime Minister, Patrick Achi, and dissolve the entire government.
This decision was announced by Abdourahmane Cissé, the Secretary-General of the Presidency, on Friday. It marks yet another major reshuffle in the West African nation’s political landscape.
The president exercised his constitutional powers by signing a decree that terminates the roles of the prime minister and the members of the government.
This decision comes as Ivory Coast is preparing for a crucial election in 2025, adding a layer of complexity to the nation’s political landscape.
Ivory Coast has experienced a series of changes in its leadership, particularly in the position of prime minister.
Patrick Achi succeeded Hamed Bakayoko, who tragically passed away due to cancer in March 2021.
Bakayoko’s predecessor had also died in office due to illness, highlighting the challenges faced by leaders in the nation.
In his statement, Abdourahmane Cissé expressed President Ouattara’s gratitude to Prime Minister Patrick Achi and all government members for their dedication and service to the nation over the years.
The outgoing officials will continue to serve until later this month when a new government is expected to be established.

Ouattara past changes
In September, President Ouattara had already hinted at an upcoming ministerial reshuffle, scheduled to coincide with the Ivorian Senate’s election of its new president.
This move is part of a broader political restructuring in Ivory Coast, highlighting the nation’s commitment to evolving its governance.
Prime Minister Patrick Achi has held his position since April 2022, following the previous government reshuffle.
Initially appointed in March 2021, he briefly resigned in April of the following year when President Ouattara announced plans to reduce the size of the Cabinet, reflecting a dynamic and evolving political landscape in Ivory Coast.
