JERUSALEM – Israel has experienced a deadly attack by Palestinian militants, with at least 40 people killed and over 700 injured, according to the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical services.

The casualties resulted from fighting that erupted on Saturday between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants.

“Since the morning hours, MDA teams provided medical care to hundreds of casualties, and pronounced 40 people dead,” stated the MDA.

The Israe-li health ministry also confirmed that at least 779 people had been injured and transported to hospitals.

In response to these attacks, the United States (US) issued a strong condemnation, denouncing the actions of “Hamas terrorists” against Jerusalem.

The US pledged unwavering support to its key ally, promising to ensure that Israel has the means to defend itself.

National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson stated, “The United States unequivocally condemns the unprovoked attacks by Hamas terrorists against Israeli civilians,” emphasizing that there is never any justification for terrorism.

USA National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has been in contact with Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi and will continue to maintain close communication with Jerusalem partners during this operation.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin reaffirmed the US’s unwavering commitment to Jerusalem’s right to defend itself, stating, “Over the coming days, the Department of Defense will work to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself and protect civilians from indiscriminate violence and terrorism.”

The Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a coordinated air, sea, and land attack on Jerusalem, prompting Israel to declare itself at war with Hamas.

The surprise dawn attack originated from the blockaded Gaza Strip, resulting in casualties and escalating tensions in the region.

As the situation continues to develop, international attention remains focused on the ongoing conflict, with concerns growing about the potential for further violence and its impact on civilian populations.
