TEXAS – New Zealand based Zimbabwean Mixed Martial Arts fighter Mike Mathetha known as Blood Diamond lost on his UFC debut in Texas United States early Sunday after being left unconscious in the first round by American Jeremiah Wells.
Blood Diamond entered the fight with high expectations, being a training partner of Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at City Kick Boxing, a man that had been preaching his praises all fight week.
But Adesanya was left in tears watching after seeing his training partner fall unconscious after refusing to tap from the choke by Wells who came in with a well executed plan.
Bulawayo born Blood Diamond was taken to the mat early, but showed plenty of heart to endure submission attempts from the much bigger American before he was eventually choked unconscious, refusing to tap out.
Wells executed his game plan to perfection, capitalising on Blood Diamond’s relative grappling inexperience and denying him any opportunity to showcase his highly touted striking en route to his fourth-straight win.
