BULAWAYO – Former Zimbabwe international Joel Luphahla has joined Highlanders as an assistant to head coach Mandla Mpofu, just a day after leaving Northern Region Soccer League side Golden Eagles.

Highlanders Secretary General Morgan Dube said the appointment of Luphahla, a former Bosso star, was necessitated by the need to strengthen the technical department and give support to the head coach Mpofu who have of late been under heavy criticism from the fans and some sections of the media.

“Following their request to beef up the bench and have a full compliment, Joel Luphahla has been brought in as the second assistant coach.

“We humbly urge the Highlanders family to support the technical team in all ways possible to help the club attain the intended goal. Together we can,” Dube said in a statement.

Luphahla made his name at Highlanders as a player and is touted as one of the best upcoming coaches after winning the Central Region Soccer League championship with TelOne in 2018 taking them into the Premier Soccer League.

The Highlanders Secretary General also announced that Ronald Moyo who has been the acting chief executive since the departure of Nhlanhla Dube has been given the job on substantive basis.

Highlanders hosts Yadah at Barbourfields stadium on Sunday in their next assignment after last weekend’s 1-1 draw away to CAPS United.
