Zimbabwe coach Logarusic fired

Croatian gaffer Zdravko Logarusic has been fired as the senior Zimbabwe men football team coach after a disastrous tenure in which he failed dismally.

HARARE – Croatian gaffer Zdravko Logarusic has been relieved of his duties as the senior Zimbabwe men football team coach after a disastrous tenure in which he failed dismally.

Logarusic was sacked as Warriors coach on Sunday after ZIFA executive meeting dubbed “crisis indaba” in which board members unanimously agreed the Croatian experiment was now an abomination.

ZIFA announced the development in a letter dated 12 September 2021 with a letter head which reads “ZIFA, Loga Part Ways” issued by Communications and Competitions Manager Xolisani Gwesela.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) would like to inform the football fraternity and the nation at large that it has amicably parted ways with Senior Men’s team coach Zdravko Logarusic.

“The decision was arrived at upon consideration by the full Executive Committee of all the various relevant circumstances pertaining to the coach’s contract,” said Gwesela.

The underachieving gaffer accepted his fate with the two parties agreeing for a mutual termination of the contract while his assistants Lloyd Chitembwe, Tonderai Ndiraya and Benjani Mwaruwari were also given the sack.

“The entire technical team has also been disbanded. The appointment of the interim technical team shall be announced in due course as the Executive Committee has already set in motion the process,” disclosed Gwesela.

The Bryton Malandule technical and development committee given the task to make recommendations for a new gaffer.

The committee have until Monday to submit the names from which the executive committee will appoint a new coach.

A local gaffer will be in charge for the Ghana match in Kumasi on October 10 before a return four days later in Harare.

Some names have been thrown into the ring as suitable replacements for Logarusic with Chicken Inn gaffer Joey Antipas, FC Platinum’s Norman Mapeza and Benjani Mwaruwari leading the odds.
