LILONGWE – The Lilongwe Magistrate Court on Monday rejected a request by the State to have witnesses in Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church founder Shepherd Bushiri case testify in South Africa.
It follows the ruling by the same court last year that witnesses travel physically to Malawi to testify despite an objection by the South African government and a request by the State not to have them physically citing logistic challenges.

But according to the Court, the DPP does not have the powers to make the application under the law as the powers are with the court to make the application and not the parties.
The court has since given each parties 14 days to make fresh application on how witnesses should testify and it will make its own decision based on the application.
The matter has since been adjourned to August 5th to hear the fresh applications from both sides.
