HARARE – Economic Empowerment Group (EEG) president Mike Chimombe has been acquitted of fraud charges after being accused of selling a non-existent stand.
Chimombe was arrested in September this year before being released on a Z$50,000 bail after being charged with defrauding one Brian Marungamise of US$16,900.
But this week the State dropped charges against the former Affirmative Action Group boss saying there was no evidence linking Chimombe to the offence.
The acquittal of Chimombe (41) is another case likely to be viewed as a ‘catch and release’ programme undertaken by the ‘Second Republic’ on its proxies.
