MHONDORO – CAPS United delivered a stunning performance, securing their third consecutive victory in a five-goal thriller against Simba Bhora.
The match saw former Soccer Star of the Year, Rodwell Chinyengetere, shine with his third goal in as many matches.
The excitement at Boabab Stadium began with Simba Bhora taking an early lead as Tinashe Balakasi capitalized on a cross from Roland Kangadzi in the 14th minute.
However, CAPS United swiftly responded when Joseph Tulani equalized in the 33rd minute, exploiting a defensive lapse by Simba Bhora.
Seven minutes later, Rodwell Chinyengetere headed home a cross from Tulani, putting Makepekepe ahead at half-time with a 2-1 lead.
The second half was equally intense as Simba Bhora fought to level the score. Balakasi delivered an equalizer from the penalty spot in the 78th minute, keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats.

In a surprising twist, substitute Blessing Sarupinda scored a late and somewhat fortuitous winner for CAPS United.
Sarupinda’s goal was the result of a goal line clearance by Kangadzi, with the ball bouncing off Sarupinda into the net, much to the dismay of Simba Bhora’s goalkeeper, Simba Chinani.
Lloyd Chitembwe, the coach of CAPS United, commended his team for their determination and character in challenging conditions.
The victory eased CAPS United’s concerns as they moved six points clear of the relegation zone, accumulating a total of 36 points.
Chitembwe stated, “The boys showed character, and this is what we need going forward. The players showed determination in otherwise difficult pitch conditions.”
Simba Bhora’s coach, Tonderai Ndiraya, expressed disappointment over the loss but praised his team’s performance. He emphasized their commitment to staying clear of relegation.
Simba Bhora traveled to Triangle to face the Sugar Boys shortly after the match, while CAPS United celebrated their recent success, enjoying a stronger position in the league.
Rodwell Chinyengetere, a two-time Soccer Star of the Year with FC Platinum in 2017 and 2018, continues to shine with his third consecutive goal.
His performance against Hwange, Sheasham, and now Simba Bhora demonstrates his impact on CAPS United’s recent victories.
The Green half of the city, CAPS United, has renewed faith after securing nine points in their last three matches, marking a significant turnaround in their season.
