Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, led by General Secretary Xi Jinping, convened a meeting on Friday to delve into the economic agenda for 2024.

BEIJING (Xinhua) – The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, led by General Secretary Xi Jinping, convened a meeting on Friday to delve into the economic agenda for 2024, address party conduct and anti-corruption measures, and review regulations governing the CPC’s disciplinary action.

Acknowledging the economic recovery achieved in 2023 and the commendable progress in high-quality development, the meeting outlined strategies to fortify economic vitality, manage risks, improve societal expectations, and sustain the positive momentum of economic growth in 2024.

“Pursuing progress while ensuring stability, consolidating stability through progress, and embracing new initiatives while phasing out the old will be the guiding principles for economic work next year,” the meeting declared.

In terms of macroeconomic policies, the meeting emphasized the need for strengthened counter-cyclical and cross-cyclical adjustments, with continued implementation of a proactive fiscal policy and a prudent monetary policy.

It called for an intensified and improved quality of the fiscal policy, coupled with a flexible, appropriate, targeted, and effective approach to the monetary policy.

Scientific and technological innovations were underscored as instrumental in leading the development of a modern industrial system, enhancing the resilience and security of industrial and supply chains.

Efforts to stimulate domestic demand, create a reciprocal relationship between consumption and investment, deepen reforms in key areas, and expand high-standard opening up were highlighted as pivotal in injecting momentum into high-quality development.

The meeting also emphasized risk prevention, promotion of integrated urban-rural development, ecological progress, and green and low-carbon growth.
