LONDON, United Kingdom – German international Timo Werner has made a return to the Premier League, securing a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur from RB Leipzig for the remainder of the season.
The 27-year-old forward faced challenges during his previous two-year stint with Chelsea but played a part in their Champions League victory in 2021.
Werner’s time at Leipzig also posed difficulties as he found himself lower in the pecking order under manager Marco Rose.
The move to Tottenham comes at a crucial time for the club, with key attacking players such as captain Son Heung-min, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon, and James Maddison either away or sidelined due to injuries.
Expressing his reasons for joining Tottenham, Werner stated, “A lot of things attracted me here.”
“First of all, the talk with the manager. I thought it was a really good talk. He gave me straight away the feeling that I need to join a club, what I want to feel when you talk to a manager and also the tactics and the style, how he wants to play, how he lets the team play.”

Timo Werner eyeing Euro 2024
Werner, who has struggled to find the back of the net this season with just two goals in 14 appearances, sees the move as an opportunity to revive his form and secure a spot in Germany’s Euro 2024 squad.
Leipzig’s manager, Rose, acknowledged Werner’s desire to go out on loan and pursue a spot in the European Championship squad.
Rose stated, “It’s only right that Timo wants to go out on loan. Timo would like to go to the European Championship. We wish him all the best and we’re crossing our fingers for him.”
Werner is now set to make his debut for Tottenham when they face Manchester United on Sunday.
The team currently sits fifth in the Premier League, just one point outside the top four, and is six points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Additionally, Tottenham will face holders Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup later this month.
