HARARE – Zimbabwe ended AFCON 2021 with a deserved win over Guinea while Senegal and Malawi played out a goalless draw to leave Zimbabwe bottom of the group but with the most number of goals scored.
Senegal top the group with just one penalty goal and have five points while Zimbabwe scored three goals yet they anchor the group with just three points.
Guinea who beat Malawi 1-0 and draw 0-0 with Senegal have four points, the same as Malawi who beat Zimbabwe and drew 0-0 with Senegal tonight.
They both join leaders Senegal in the round on 16 while Zimbabwe are taking the first flights home. They have 48 hrs to leave Cameroon, according to competition rules.
Goals by captain Knowledge Musona and Kuda Mahachi were enough to dispatch Guinea.
Naby Keita scored the consolation for Guinea.
The win by Warriors means they managed to secure victory in an Afcon match for the first time since 2006 in Egypt when they defeated Ghana 2-1.
Coach Norman Mapeza fully merited the win for his effort and hard work.
Well done Warriors. Well done SRC and government for making it possible.
The win will disappoint the suspended Zifa Exco who wanted Zimbabwe ejected from Cameroon by Fifa….and it didn’t happen.
