LOS ANGELES — American rapper A$AP Rocky whose real name is Rakim Mayers was charged Monday in an alleged shooting in Hollywood last year.
A$AP Rocky faces two assaults with a semi-automatic firearm, the Los Angeles district attorney’s office said.
The 33-year-old Mayers allegedly pointed the gun at a former friend during an argument in November.
In a later confrontation between the two, he allegedly pulled out the gun and fired twice, leaving the former friend with what police described as a “minor injury”.
Mayers is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles court on Wednesday.
The controversial Praise the Lord (Da Shine) singer was arrested following the incident at Los Angeles International Airport in April when he arrived on a private plane from Barbados.
US media reported that he was on the island with his then-pregnant girlfriend, Rihanna.
The entertainment and fashion mogul behind hit-songs Diamonds and Umbrella gave birth to a baby boy on May 13 in Los Angeles.
In an interview with GQ magazine published in May 2021, Mayers called Rihanna the “love of my life” and “the one”.
Mayers, who was born in New York, was arrested in Stockholm in 2019 for a street fight.
He was detained in Sweden for over a month and given a suspended sentence.
