HARARE – A new party with the name Citizens Convergence for Change (CCC) led by one Varaidzo Musungo has registered with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) in the process stealing the idea fronted by opposition leader Nelson Chamisa.
In a letter addressed to ZEC with a sender address from Nyararai Village in Murambinda, the ‘bogus’ party notified the electoral board of its intention to officially register as a political entity under the ‘CCC’ brand.
“We refer to the above and write further to our letter of 8 September 2021. We can confirm that our Party’s President and 2023 Presidential Candidate is Ms Varaidzo Musungo,” said the new party through its secretary general Ms Farai Zhou.
The party will use a logo with a worship, amen or high five emoji and has already notified ZEC of the adoption of the emoji as the official party logo or symbol.
“In the interests of better communication, we are sourcing offices in Harare and will advise once we have these.
“In the meantime, we ask that you contact us through our legal practitioners, Messrs T HARA & PARTNERS, 2nd Floor, CIPF Centre, J. Moyo, 10th Street, BULAWAYO,” said Zhou.
Citizens Convergence for Change is an idea introduced by MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa at the beginning of this year in his “Agenda 2021” address.
The idea is to bring citizens from different backgrounds together under one banner in order to push for a real democratic change with the inclusion of different concerned parties.
Chamisa has been at the centre of an onslaught from Zanu PF through a surrogate opposition party, MDC-T fronted by Douglas Mwonzora.
Mwonzora has claimed the name MDC Alliance belongs to his party leaving Chamisa with no option but to look for a new name.
Chamisa, the most popular politician in the country has not officially disclosed the next move but has given hints with Citizens Convergence for Change being one of them.
It remains to be seen what will be the next move for the opposition leader who has given incumbent Emmerson Mnanagwa sleepless nights especially with the whole country turning to him through “Chamisa Ngaapinde” online campaign.
