SOWETO – Orlando Pirates suffered their first DStv Premiership defeat of the season after losing 1-0 to Chippa United on Sunday night in a match played at the majestic Orlando Stadium.
Pirates got the first real chance of the game when Thembinkosi Lorch pushed a teasing cross from the right of the box for Kwame Peprah, who headed wide.
On the other hand, the Chilli Boys offered little attacking surface and instead played on the counter after a deep defensive blockade on the opposing edge of the penalty area.
Chippa finally broke the deadlock five minutes from full time through Abdi Banda who headed in from a pin-point corner-kick to break the heart of the Buccaneers.
After the match, Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro said he is proud of the performance against Chippa but believes his players lack confidence in front of goal.
“Well I’m sad with the result but very proud of our performance, I think we did everything in order to win, we generated the chances, kept the counter-attacks under control,” Riveiro said on SuperSport TV.
