HARARE – Transport Minister Joel Biggie Matiza has died from COVID-19 becoming the fourth minister to succumb to the virus.
Information ministry secretary Nick Mangwana announced the news in a communique.
Matiza was hospitalised last week. He was 59 years old.

Matiza, died of COVID-19 on Friday evening at a private hospital in the capital Harare.
Earlier today, former education minister Aeneas Chigwedere also succumbed to COVID-19, and following Matiza’s death.
Chigwedere passed away on Friday as a result of COVID-19 problems, his relatives reported.
A renowned historian who formerly held the position of Provincial Governor in Mashonaland East, Chigwedere was a traditional leader in his home region at the time of his death.
The 81-year-old Aeneas Chigwedere died at his farm near Marondera town in the Mashonaland East province.
Chigwedere’s death was also confirmed by Zimbabwe’s deputy foreign affairs minister, David Musabayana, who also sent his condolences to the family.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that Paradzai Zimondi, 73, the country’s former head of prisons, also succumbed to the virus.
