MHONDORO – Rodwell Dhlakama has officially resigned from his post as Ngezi Platinum Stars head coach after being placed on indefinite leave over suspicions of extorting money from the players.
Although Ngezi Platinum Stars didn’t specify the reasons for sending Dhlakama on leave, sources at the club said it was because they wanted to investigate allegations that he was asking for kickbacks from players from their sign own fees.
An internal investigation however failed to nail Dhlakama to the allegations. After being absolved of any wrong doing, Dhlakama decided to part ways with Ngezi Platinum Stars.
The club announced on Monday that Dhlakama tendered his resignation over the weekend.
“Ngezi Platinum Stars would like to announce that we have parted ways with head coach Rodwell Dhlakama amicably after the coach handed his resignation on Saturday 26 February 2022,” said Ngezi Platinum Stars chief executive Nyasha Kadenge in a statement.
“The Board and Executive of Ngezi Platinum Stars FC wish coach Dhlakama well in his future endeavours.”
Kadenge said the club as started the process of identifying Dhlakama’s replacement.
“To ensure minimum disruption to the club’s performance, processes have been initiated to find a replacement head coach for the club.
“An announcement in this regard will be made at the relevant time.”
Dhlakama’s former assistant Takesure Chiragwi is currently holding fort on interim basis.
Chiragwi drew against CAPS United and against Yadah in the two matches that he has been in charge. His next assignment will be against Triangle away at Gibbo stadium.
