HARARE – Music producer DJ Fantan, real name Anold Kamudyariwa, has come under fire from social media users after openly defending the allegedly corrupt government official.
Fantan took to social media on Monday to defend under-fire Sports deputy minister Tinomudaishe Machakaire who made headlines in the past for buying an expensive Rolls Royce Phantom worth a staggering US$495 800 from United Kingdom.
Machakaire owns a transport and logistics company, TinMac Motors, which reportedly acquired new fleet of haulage trucks recently.
In total, Machakaire is said to have splashed approximately US$770 000 after duty to get his new ‘machine’ home but that has just sparked outrage from poverty stricken citizens.
Concerned citizens have demanded to know the minister’s source of wealth amid reports that he illegally won a government tender to transport agricultural equipment and implements under the Command Agriculture looting scheme which had a budget of US$3 billion.
The ongoing debate has forced Chillspot Records producer Fantan to offer solidarity to Machakaire telling him to “be strong”.
“Dear hon @machakairetino be strong mukuru, bcoz (sic) kune vanhu vanoda kusvibisa mazita evamwe pa social media just for clout [Dear honourable Machakaire be strong boss because there are people who love to character assassinate others on social media just for popularity],” he said.
“Garai muchiziva kuti ane bhora ndiye anomakwa, strongest soldiers get the hardest fight & (sic) ndimi mbinga 1 isina noise kana show off asi murikurira muma streets zvekudaro [Just know always that the one at the top gets hated, strongest soldiers get the hardest fight and you are the only tycoon who doesn’t make noise or is flashy but you are currently trending everywhere]. So zvinorwadza vavengi [It pains haters].”
“Now vakufambisa mbiri yekuti makatenga hammer kkk havasikuziva kuti munobatsira hama [Now they are speculating that you bought a hammer (laughs) but they don’t know you help the needy],” he continued.
The post by the Mbare based Zimdancehall producer has attracted mixed feelings from followers with a campaign to unfollow him on social media already underway.
