South African gospel singer Deborah Fraser has died aged 56 following a short illness.
Fraser, whose health deteriorated after suffering a stroke last week, died Sunday afternoon at Chris Hani Baragwanath University Hospital.
The Ngonile hitmaker had been unwell and was wheelchair bound after recent health issues though she hoped to get better and return on stage to heal people through music.
In a statement, the family of gospel singer Deborah Fraser confirmed her death on Sunday, May 15, 2022.
“It is with deep sadness to inform you of the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend, and Gospel musician, Deborah Fraser following a short illness. She passed on today (Sunday) after midday, in the presence of her family and friends,” the family said.
The family asks for confidentiality while they process the news.
“As Deborah Fraser’s family we would like to be given space to process and deal with this very tragic situation. The public will be further informed of any developments.”
Several people in South Africa and abroad have paid tribute to the late Deborah Fraser whose music penetrated every corner of the earth impacting positively on people’s lives.
