HARARE – Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on Wednesday arrested the Sheriff of the High Court of Zimbabwe, Macduff Madega on allegations of criminal abuse of power.
In a statement released by ZACC on Wednesday, Madega was reportedly instructed to auction off an encumbering creditor’s estate to settle a charge.
Madega fortified and auctioned off the property to the highest bidder.
However, it is alleged that before confirming the sale of the property, Madega received a call which he handled, which caused him to not confirm the sale.
However, after admitting the objection, Madega allegedly put the same property up for sale by private treaty and did not disclose the previous objection to the buyer.
According to ZACC, investigations into several other allegations against Madega are continuing.
Meanwhile, Madega is expected to appear in court this Thursday.
In 2018, Madega touched storm in the Emmerson Mnangagwa vs Nelson Chamisa case for giving “short shrift to serving Chamisa’s ConCourt papers to Mnangagwa and Zimbabwe Electoral Commission” whom he is alleged to have advantaged.
