Hwange secures victory over Yadah as Khama Billiat fails to inspire

HWANGE – In a highly anticipated return to the Castle Lager Premier League, Khama Billiat‘s presence failed to inspire Yadah FC as they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Hwange in their season opener at the Colliery Stadium.

Despite cheers from the crowd as Billiat warmed up, the Zimbabwean football star, out of action for eight months, was only introduced in the 75th minute.

However, his late appearance couldn’t conjure the magic needed to salvage a point for Yadah.

The winning goal came from Hwange’s Gift Mbweti, a returning son and former FC Platinum player, who capitalized on a defensive error in the 17th minute to chip the ball past Yadah’s goalkeeper, Marshall Takarinda.

While Billiat’s introduction injected some energy into Yadah’s play, his effort in the dying minutes of the game hit the left upright, leaving Chipangano fans relieved.

Despite Hwange’s dominance in the first half and numerous missed chances, Yadah showed resilience in the second half, particularly after the introduction of Vincent Sango.

However, they failed to find the equalizer.

Hwange’s new signings, including Mongameli Tshuma, Bhekani Sibanda, Prosper Mathe, and Mbweti, showcased promising performances alongside seasoned players like Shepard Gadzikwa, Canaan Nkomo, and Solomon Sithole.

Hwange’s assistant coach, Obert Moyo, praised the team for their performance, stating, “The boys did well and everything went according to plan.”

Meanwhile, Yadah’s coach, Tinashe Ruzive, acknowledged the defeat but praised his players’ resilience.

He also expressed optimism about Billiat’s impact on the team, stating, “With Billiat in the fold, he brings stability and experience, and he will bring in lots of positives going forward.”

The defeat marks a disappointing start for Yadah in the Premier League, while Hwange celebrates a victorious opening to their season campaign.
