LUSAKA – Tanzania former President Jakaya Kikwete paid tribute to the late former President of Zambia, Rupiah Banda at a state funeral held in his honour.
Kikwete who attended the event on behalf of Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan described the late Banda as an astute statesman.
Banda, who was the fourth President of Zambia from 2008 to 2011 died after a long battle with colon cancer.
Speaking at the state funeral, Kikwete said the late Banda played a vital role in ensuring the smooth transition between former President Edgar Lungu and incumbent Hakainde Hichilema during the 2021 polls.
