Sanyati member of parliament Polite Kambamura hired a militia to violently interrupt a Zanu PF cell inter-district gathering at the Nyimo business centre in the constituency on Thursday.

KADOMA – Sanyati member of parliament Polite Kambamura has been accused of hiring a militia to violently interrupt a Zanu PF cell inter-district gathering at the Nyimo business centre in the constituency on Thursday.

According to several party officials who spoke to this publication, a hired youth squad was given the order to assault Zanu PF district chairpersons from Arda, Rusvingo, and Nyaunde who are seen as impeding Kambamura’s reelection campaign.

Sylvester Mhirizhonga, the chair of the Zanu PF Arda district and one of the victims, stated that they had reported the incident to the authorities.

Mhirizhonga whose late father was a feared reign of terror architect in the early 2000s, is reported to be interested in running as ZANU PF parliamentary representative for Sanyati in the 2023 elections.

But he faces an uphill task to dislodge Kambamura who is also the current deputy minister of mines in the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

According to Zanu PF Rusvingo district chairperson Joseph Takasungwa, the nefarious Kambamura arrived with a truckload of thugs to start trouble at the meeting.

“Kambamura came with hired thugs to beat up people, including myself,” he said.

As a result of reportedly losing a tooth in the altercation, Nyaunde district chair Kudakwashe Gwatinyanya claimed he sought medical attention at Sanyati Baptist Hospital.

Zanu PF Mashonaland West provincial member Tawanda Tachiona confirmed that Kambamura had sent thugs to beat up party leaders in Sanyati.

However, Kambamura distanced himself from the fights when contacted for a response on the matter.

“I have no idea what you are discussing. I am in Sanyati, yes, but I have never seen that,” he said.

The controversial Sanyati lawmaker is not new to intra-party conflict and scandals.

He has recently been charged with sending hired thugs after his rivals within the party in an attempt to ensure he is not challenged in the upcoming primary elections.
