HARARE – Local gospel sector has only known of the powerful couple in Charles and Olivia Charamba better referred to as Baba na Mai Charamba or The Charambas.
All that seems to be changing with the entrance of a familiar figure in the name of Mai Dhuterere, wife to Darlington Mutseta popularly known as Mambo Dhuterere.
Music runs in the Dhuterere family and the latest track Mwari Mutinzwire Ngoni supports the point.
This is the first time Mai Dhuterere has taken a lead role in a song after spending most of her time as a backing vocalist to Mambo Dhuterere.
Interestingly, the Dhutereres just swapped roles with Mambo Dhuterere taking the backing role in a song that appeals to God for mercies.
Mwari Mutinzwire Ngoni touches on a number of topical issues in this world where people have taken a different path to the one God as the Creator of everything expects us to follow.
“Nhai Mwari we-e Jehovah tisunungure. Takakutadzirai Baba mumwe nemumwe. Hongu mitemo ine gumi tinayo mufunge asi moyo nekusindimara takafuratira shoko,” sings Mai Dhuterere.
“Makatipa nherera isu ndokudzimhura nemikondo. Shirikadzi takadzimhura hatina kumbonzwa tsitsi,” the lyrics continued.
The song goes on to take a swipe at the world order which has gained more respect for changing the laws of God in the name of rights and liberalism.
Many people have warmly received the song and given a thumbs up for Mai Dhuterere.
“She can sing so effortless and she is the best,” said one Lilian Rice.
“Who else agree with me that Mama Dhuts is one of the toughest gospel artist of all time we’ve on our terrestrial,” wrote Bridget Chitoro.
The song has already racked up more than 50 000 views a few hours after its release. It’s a new era and for Mai Dhuterere here we go!
