PRETORIA – President Cyril Ramaphosa should be wearing orange overalls and put in jail, according to Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, for allegedly covering up the Phala Phala controversy.
Malema made the remarks when his EFF party held a media briefing at its headquarters in Johannesburg on Monday.
Malema stated that Ramaphosa’s resignation was insufficient and that his party also wanted the president to be impeached in an effort to deprive him of his retirement benefits.
Following accusations that he covered up a robbery at his farm in Limpopo as well as accusations of kidnapping, Ramaphosa is in deep water as his political life hangs by the thread.
EFF intends to step up attempts to hold him responsible for the Phala Phala saga, after he was determined to have broken the law by recent report findings.
Ramaphosa denied any misconduct, but a Section 89 panel report decided there was enough information to make the president the subject of further investigation.
Malema also wants to unite opposition parties to support a motion of no confidence in Ramaphosa as well as an impeachment procedure in Parliament on Tuesday.
