HARARE – Norman Mapeza, the head coach of FC Platinum, is set to lead the Zimbabwean national football team, the Warriors, in the upcoming Four-Nations tournament scheduled to take place in Malawi from March 18 to 26.
The tournament, which involves Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, and hosts Malawi, aims to help the participating countries prepare for the resumption of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Mapeza’s appointment comes in the absence of a substantive coach, with the ZIFA Normalisation Committee opting to entrust him with the responsibility due to his past experience in the role.
He will be assisted by Takesure Chiragwi, the reigning Premier League Coach of the Year and head coach of Ngezi Platinum.
In an official statement, ZIFA announced, “ZIFA is pleased to announce that Norman Mapeza has been appointed as the interim head coach of the men’s Zimbabwe national team, for the upcoming four-nations tournament in Malawi.”
Experience does it for Mapeza
Mapeza, a former national team captain, boasts a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach.
He has led FC Platinum to multiple league titles in the Zimbabwe Premier League and has previously served as the head coach of the men’s senior national team.
The announcement of Mape-za’s appointment has been met with anticipation and optimism among Zimbabwean football fans, who hope that his leadership will steer the Warriors to success in the upcoming tournament.
With preparations underway and Mapeza at the helm, the Warriors are gearing up to face off against formidable opponents from the region, with eyes set on delivering a strong performance and making their mark in the Four-Nations tournament.
As the tournament draws near, the spotlight will undoubtedly be on Mapeza and his team as they strive to showcase their talent and represent Zimbabwe on the international stage.
