Marry Mubaiwa, the ex-wife of Zimbabwean Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, has been found guilty of breaching the Marriage Code after lying about her former husband agreeing to formalise their union while he was hospitalized in India.
Mubaiwa was found guilty of the offense by Harare judge Lazini Ncube, who said testimonies of witnesses proved she lied about Vice President Chiwenga agreeing to legalize their marriage.
Ncube also pointed out that Mubaiwa had planned for the wedding based on testimonies from state witnesses, including that of Vice President Chiwenga.
Mubaiwa is currently hospitalized in a life-threatening condition, which will result in her right arm amputated due to a severe septic syndrome, characterized by a deep infection following a surgical procedure.
She is represented by top human rights lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa.
