HARARE – The ex-wife of Zimbabwean Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Marry Mubaiwa, who is hospitalized in a life-threatening condition, will have her right arm amputated due to a severe septic syndrome, characterized by a deep infection following a surgical procedure.

It comes after revision surgical process to deal with a re-break.

Marry’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, told the court today that she is in serious condition and her right arm will have to be amputated.

Marry was denied permission to receive treatment outside the country.

She collapsed in court yesterday after suffering similar seizures in the previous months.

The latest development was confirmed in a letter signed by Dr John Nyahunzvi dated 29 March 2022 with the following letter heard “Recommendation: Right High Above Elbow Amputation”

“I had the pleasure of assessing Marry Mubaiwa on behalf of my senior colleague Mr Mthethwa.

“She is 5 weeks post revision surgery for a right humerus shaft re-fracture.

“Her current condition is critical (life threatening) and has necessitated hospitalization and stabilization with a plan for emergent right high above elbow amputation as soon as she is deemed medically stable.

“She has severe sepsis secondary to deep infection after revision surgery to fix a re-fracture of right humerus shaft against a background of chronic sepsis in her forearm.

“Careful in-patient clinical management of her current state is required, and a multi-disciplinary team is in attendance,” wrote Dr Nyahunzvi.
