LONDON – Leicester City starlet Tawanda Maswanhise has been ruled out of the Warriors World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia as he doesn’t have a Zimbabwean passport.
The 18-year-old Maswanhise was named in the Warriors provisional squad by coach Norman Mapeza for the two matches but the rising star could not honour the call up because he doesn’t have Zimbabwean documents.
A process has however started which might see Maswanhise get his passport by the end of the week with his papers set to be presented to the Zimbabwean embassy in the UK on Tuesday.
He becomes the second player from the provisional squad to drop off after Ipswich Town striker Macauley Bonne pulled citing some healthy concerns which he claims are exacerbated by hot climatic conditions in Southern Africa.
However, the national team manager Wellington Mpandare revealed there is still some hope that Maswanhise will be available for the last match at home against Ethiopia.
The locally based Warriors players get into camp on Sunday and departs for South Africa on Monday where they will link up with the foreign based players.
