HARARE – Norman Matemera, one of the best local referees and a darling of CAF for his refusal to accept bribes has been removed from his scheduled World Cup qualifiers Group J match on September 2, The Page can exclusively reveal.
The Bryton Malandule chaired referees committee is reported to have written to FIFA, accusing Matemera of skipping physical training and tests adding that he is not fit to handle high profile matches.
He was pencilled to take charge of the Madagascar versus Benin match in Antananarivo. Brighton Chimene, has instead been chosen to replace him while Brighton Nyika and Thomas Kusosa will be running the lines.
Malandule’s favourite Prince Mathumo, unsurprisingly has been named fourth official.
South African Enock Molefe will be the referees assessor with George Simon from Seychelles as the match commissioner.
Gordon Savic, the FIFA head of qualifiers and international matches wrote to ZIFA on August 19 advising of the changes necessitated by the removal of Matemera following a notice from Malandule.
The Page is in possession of the full communication details.
