PARIS – Highly rated midfielder Marshall Munetsi scored the second goal for French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims, when they thrashed Toulouse 3-0 in an entertaining match played on Sunday night.
Reims started on the front foot with Junya Ito scoring early in the 4th minute.
Ito put the ball to the bottom left corner with a powerful right footed shot inside the box after being assisted by Dion Lopy.
The effective Ito soon turned provider three minutes as Munetsi unleashed a right footed shot from the right side of the box to the top right corner as Reims went 2-0 up.
Munetsi who was linked with a move to the English Premier League in January, returned to the fold with a beautiful goal after being sidelined for last weekend’s game due to a hip muscle injury.
In addition to two assists this season, the goal against Toulouse is his fifth in Ligue 1 for the 2022–23 season.
The home side continued their dominance as Toulouse failed to deal with the pacey game but all the chances for the rest of the first half did not result extra goals.
In the second half, Reims maintained their pedigree and their persistence was rewarded eight minutes after the hour mark when Yunis Abdelhamid headed from a close range to the top right corner.
He was assisted by Junya Ito who proved to be a menace for Toulouse with a man of the match display yo help Reims move a point behind 9th placed Olympique Lyon with 37 points after 25 games.
