Pirates of the Caribbean: Demons of the Corsair hoax sparks excitement

Internet frenzy ensued recently as an alleged poster for the sixth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean surfaced on Facebook, leaving fans in eager anticipation.

PRETORIA – Internet frenzy ensued recently as an alleged poster for the sixth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean surfaced on Facebook, leaving fans in eager anticipation.

Titled “Pirates of the Caribbean: Demons of the Corsair,” the poster featured Johnny Depp reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush returning as Captain Hector Barbossa.

However, the excitement was short-lived as it turns out the entire buzz was nothing more than a cleverly crafted hoax.

The unofficial poster and accompanying details were the creation of a satire and parody Facebook account, mirroring the tactics employed by those responsible for the recent viral Terminator posters featuring Margot Robbie and Henry Cavill.

Despite its fictitious nature, the poster gained considerable attention, amassing an impressive 11,000 likes and numerous enthusiastic comments from fans expressing their anticipation.

The fabricated movie poster claimed that Captain Barbossa had miraculously returned from the dead, promising fans an epic maritime adventure filled with action, treacherous waters, and supernatural encounters.

The elaborate hoax even included a reported release in 2025 and the acclaimed director, Gore Verbinski.

However, the truth of the matter is that “Pirates of the Caribbean: Demons of the Corsair” is not in the works, and the information is entirely baseless.

The incident serves as a cautionary reminder to verify information before sharing, especially when it comes to highly anticipated movie releases.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Demons of the Corsair possibility?

The real status of Johnny Depp’s involvement in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise remains uncertain.

Following the 2020 libel trial in London, where Depp lost against The Sun and News Group Newspapers LTD, the actor was quietly removed from the series.

He was also ousted from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in Warner Bros‘s Fantastic Beasts franchise.

In 2022, Depp’s legal battles continued during a multi-million defamation trial in Virginia against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.

Despite largely prevailing in court, Depp has not returned to blockbuster filmmaking, with his latest appearance in Maïwenn’s Jeanne du Barry (2023).

The defamation lawsuit also revealed conflicting information about Depp’s potential return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, making the actor’s comeback uncertain.

While Disney has remained non-committal on Depp’s return, producer Jerry Bruckheimer expressed interest in working with the actor again, keeping the possibility of a comeback open.
