President Museveni’s son General Muhoozi eyes Uganda presidency

Ugandan Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has publicly expressed his interest to succeed his father President Yoweri Museveni.

The latest revelation comes after nearly a decade of speculation on the issues a likely family power transfer in Uganda between Museveni and his son Kainerugaba.

Uganda’s first son and commander of the country’s land forces first showed his desire to publicise his presidential ambitions when he turned auspicious celebrations of his 48th birthday into a national event in late April.

General Muhoozi latest birthday was full of pomp and funfare with several celebrations held across the country and the main event at the State House graced by President Museveni and Rwandan Paul Kagame.

General Muhoozi appears to have gathered enough courage to publicly declare his interest in the presidency through Twitter on 1st of May after his birthday celebration.

“When Team MK wins power in this country, which we will, our first action will be to increase the sports budget. Team MK will announce our political programme soon,” Gen Muhoozi said on Twitter.

The Muhoozi Project was unearthed in 2013 by General David Sejusa who disclosed that President Museveni was grooming his son to succeed him when he retires.

President Museveni and General Muhoozi repeatedly denied the allegations for almost nearly a decade but the latest series of events point to an interesting story line.
