JOHANNESBURG — South African actor-cum-producer Shona Ferguson has died aged 47, due to Covid-19 complications, his production stable has revealed.
The Botswana-born star, famous for the Dstv show, The Queen, died at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Friday, according to Conrad Mwanza, a representative from the Ferguson Films (FF).
FF said Ferguson died from Covid-19 related complications contrary to a number of reports linking the death to heart sickness.
Ferguson is said to have undergone a heart surgery according to reliable sources.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm of Mr. Shona Ferguson. He passed away at noon today (Friday 30 July 2021) ,” said Ferguson Films in a statement.
“Mr Ferguson’s untimely passing was due to COVID-19 related complications, and not a heart operation as reported in the media.
“We ask that you give the family time to process this painful loss, and respect their space during this time,” the film production company said in a statement.
Shona Ferguson was born on 30th April 1974 in Gaborone, Botswana, but later on relocated to Johannesburg, South Africa for acting in 1992. He married actress Constance ‘Connie’ Masilo in 2001.
The power couple who were also business partners founded Ferguson Films whose first TV production was the soapie, Rockville.
Ferguson featured in a number of TV shows and movies, including the series Muvhango, Generations, Scandal, The Wild, Isidingo and The Need.
The most popular production by the actor is The Queen, in which also features wife Connie Ferguson. The Fergusons have a daughter together, Alicia.
