Tough luck Warriors but Mapeza must adapt or perish

Zimbabwe bowed out of the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon after a set of mixed performances. One thing is true about the failure of the team and that is Norman Mapeza needs to adapt or die.

Makomborero Gold Mutimukulu

So its not done and certainly not dusted.

Its over could be the best description.

But then again it was over the minute we lost to a Malawi team that is made up of lads who are out to steal a living as footballers.

The Warriors had a great chance to reach the Afcon knock out stages for the first time in history but they bottled it —thanks to shocking individual mistakes and equally bewildering team selection.

Why we gave Tino Kadewere, now a proven failure at national team level, a run ahead of Muskwe baffles me.

Kadewere has run out of excuses now.

Aimboti Khama and Knowledge vanowonana pachi Aces Youth Academy nton nton (He used to say Khama and Knowledge linkup because of their Aces Youth Academy background)

But that was all sour grapes.

Tino got a run and messed up.

Why we benched Zemura and Mahachi when they have pace to burn confuses me.

Pace is one thing that will never go out of fashion in football but we chose to have Kangwa and Chimwemwe even at times when going for broke looked like a necessity.

The fixation with Madzongwe is the stuff that national geographic makes episodes on!

What is so special about that boy, he is slow, undecisive and uninsipiring.

We await the technical report on Afcon!

But let me hasten to repeat that for me Norman Mapeza remains the best local coach we have and if it were up to me I would give him a long contract.

However, he needs to develop into more of a manager than a coach. Learn to manage each individual differently.

Players are different.

Some excel under tough love, others crumble. The daring one like Khama will tell you to F O and walk away to party with Vokal and the slay queens who always follow the stars.

At Chippa, Norman Mapeza had to soften up a bit because across the Limpopo the tough hand approach never works, especially for a foreigner.

The approach he used at Chippa can both serve and save him.

If Zifa were serious, which they are clearly not, attachments at European clubs would do for the national team coach.

Yes he played at Galatassaray but thats yonks ago, he needs to catch up with the latest managerial trends.

The national team coach needs to adapt or die.

Mapeza also needs to learn to work with strong characters who will disagree with him.

Having softies like Mangwiro and Lulu is safe but not the best way to go about it.

The story about Benjani testing Covid positive and failing to travel to Cameroon is a hoax.

There is no love lost between Mapeza and Benjani, who is doing a fine job as a Supersport pundit.

Benjani would have added value in Cameroon but Alas he is adding value on the Supersport set.

Its Gold Again!
