HARARE – Former Premier Soccer League chairman Twine Phiri is set to contest incumbent Felton Kamambo for the ZIFA presidency during elections set for next year.
Phiri, a vibrant administrator who was forced out of football during the tenure of Philip Chiyangwa as ZIFA president, has started his campaign underground targeting the key stakeholders.
The former PSL chairman who is credited for bringing in international broadcaster SuperSport during his time, has roped in respected former Highlanders chairman and PSL chairman Peter Dube as his running mate.
Phiri who is keeping his cards close to his chest, is reported to have roped in a number of influential people in football and corporate sector to be part of his campaign team.
“You know how Twine does his things. He prefers to talk when he has covered a lot of ground.
“He will make an announcement when he feels the time is right, you know football politics, it’s like a jungle if you are not careful you are devoured before you even make a step,” said a source close to Phiri.
