HARARE – Zimbabwe’s ambassador-at-large Uebert Angel has broken his silence on the proposed plan to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028.
There have been growing calls from those loyal to Mnangagwa to amend the constitution and allow the incumbent to stay in office beyond the stipulated two terms.
These calls have been received with a pinch of salt by Zimbabweans across the divide as well as a certain faction in the ruling party Zanu PF.
The faction which is believed to be rooting for the elevation of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has been doing its bidding through a subtle resistance led by war veteran Blessed Geza.

Geza who has become a household figure among Zimbabweans as well as a nemesis of the pro-Mnangagwa group has even called for the immediate resignation of Mnangagwa for economic woes.
Amid these factional fights over the issue of term extension, Uebert Angel who is close to Mnangagwa has added his voice by denouncing those pushing the 2030 campaign.
Uebert Angel, previously implicated in a corruption syndicate popularly known as the Gold Mafia, argues that politicians are wasting time on campaigns instead of delivering on their promises.
“Some of these politicians are the ones that give the right people bad names, because they party at night but we the public get the hangover,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mnangagwa has been on record claiming he has no intention of extending his term of office despite his loyalists openly campaigning for the amendment of the constitution to allow him to stay.
