HARARE – Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was admitted to a hospital in Harare on Thursday in what sources described as a “long-planned procedure”.
The 65-year-old retired army general arrived at Borrowdale Trauma Center just before 3pm in a six-vehicle convoy with lights flashing and sirens off.
Chiwenga went to the private hospital unaided and appeared in good physical condition, a witness said.
A senior government source was quoted by ZimLive saying Chiwenga needs to have surgery to correct some stomach ailments.
“It must be routine or he would have gone to China,” the source revealed.
The Borrowdale Trauma Center, a preferred first choice hospital for Zimbabwe’s elite is owned by Zimbabwe-born foreign doctor Vivek Solanki, who is of Serbian descent.
Chiwenga had a grueling weekend of fulfilling performances during the Heroes Day and Defence Forces Day commemorations.
