Warriors free fall continue as Rwanda claim win

Warriors coach Michael Nees will surely come under further scrutiny after Zimbabwe lost 0-1 to Rwanda in 2026 FIFA World Cup Group C qualifier match played in South Africa on Tuesday.

PRETORIA – Warriors coach Michael Nees will surely come under further scrutiny after Zimbabwe lost 0-1 to Rwanda in 2026 FIFA World Cup Group C qualifier match played in South Africa on Tuesday.

Earlier on, Nees who presided over another Zimbabwe loss to Benin on Friday had subtly said Zimbabwe are a bunch of losers.

“Zimbabwe is not a country that has won AFCON three times, nor one that has qualified for the World Cup once or twice. We have to keep perspective,” said Nees.

Michael Nees has come under fire for winning 2 games in 13 he has been in charge as Zimbabwe coach though he argues that there is improvement and the focus is on the upcoming AFCON in December.

But the German is not inspiring confidence based on the recent decline of the Warriors and more importantly lack of identity for his team.

On Tuesday, the Zimbabwe Warriors sunk further after failing to match the intensity of Rwanda which saw Gilbert Mugisha score the only goal in the 40th minute to seal the win for the Wasps.

The match started with Rwanda on the front foot and the visitors thought they had opened the scoring when Mugisha let fly from distance, but his effort hit the side-netting.

He would not be denied for long, though, as he latched on to a half-cleared free kick to smash a swerving effort in from 30 yards and it was enough to pile more misery on the Warriors who anchor the group.

Meanwhile, South Africa moved closer to securing their tickets to the 20206 FIFA World Cup as they drew 1-1 with Nigeria to remain top of the group with 17 points.
