Zimbabwean boxer Taurai Zimunya died on Monday morning after suffering brain damage on the ring during a fight on Sunday night.
Zimunya aged 24 of Legends Boxing Club in Mbare went down in the second against Tawanda Majoni of Charles Manyuchi Academy during one of the 10 bouts of the Rise of Champions bill hosted by Otto Boxing Club at Body Active Gym in Borrowdale Harare.
Zimunya was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he was unresponsive.
Tests were conducted at West End clinic where it was ascertained that he suffered bleeding in the brain.
He was pronounced dead on Monday morning. This is the first time in Zimbabwe that a boxer has died from injuries sustained in the ring.
