HARARE – Manchester City former striker Benjani Mwaruwari has been appointed as an additional assistant coach for the Zimbabwe national team.
The country’s football association made the decision to appoint Mwaruwari, a former Zimbabwe captain, following recommendations by the Performance Committee to strengthen the technical team.
Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the developments.
“The Executive Committee received a progress report from the Technical and Development Committee with regards to all matches played in 2021.
“The Exco resolved that the technical teams will remain unchanged. The Exco further resolved to augment the Warriors’ technical team by appointing Benjani Mwaruwari as an assistant coach. The appointment is with immediate effect,” said Gwesela.
Zimbabwe national team which plays South Africa and Ethiopia on September 3 and September 6 respectively for Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers is currently led by Croatian gaffer Zdravko Logarusic.
Before the latest Mwaruwari appointment, Logarusic had two assistants in the name of Lloyd Chitembwe and Tonderayi Ndiraya.
