LONDON – Manchester United orchestrated a dramatic comeback to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday, with Rasmus Hojlund breaking his goal drought and sealing the win at Old Trafford.

In the first half, Villa took control of the game with goals from John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker, leaving United in a precarious position.

Erik ten Hag’s team faced the prospect of another damaging defeat, and the mood at Old Trafford was somber as they were booed off the pitch at halftime.

However, the second half witnessed a remarkable turnaround for United.

Alejandro Garnacho ignited the revival by scoring United’s first goal in seven hours and twenty minutes, breathing new life into the team.

Garnacho continued his heroics, netting the equalizer, and finally, Hojlund secured the victory with his first Premier League goal in the 15th appearance, ending United’s four-match winless streak.

“At half-time I said to the team, ‘keep believing.’ The atmosphere changed a lot from the first half to the second. If we play our best, we can beat anyone,” commented a buoyant Erik ten Hag after the match.

This crucial victory propelled Manchester United to sixth place in the Premier League, providing a much-needed boost after recent struggles.

The win was also notable after being watched by INEOS director of sport Dave Brailsford, signalling British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe’s involvement after acquiring a 25 percent stake on Christmas Eve.

On the other hand, the defeat marked a setback for Villa’s unexpected title challenge, as two consecutive games without a win have impacted their position in the league.

Unai Emery‘s men remain in third place, trailing Liverpool by three points after experiencing their first defeat in 11 matches across all competitions.
