Former FC Platinum midfielder Winston Mhango has picked midfielder Brian Banda as the man who can hurt Highlanders when the two sides meet in a Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final match at Baobab on Saturday.
FC Platinum finished top of Group 4 and are high on confidence. Pure Platinum won the same number of games as Ngezi but finished top of the standings because of a superior goal aggregate.
The Platinum miners were the highest scorers in the group stages scoring a total of 16 goals each.
However, on Saturday FC Platinum face a Highlanders that is yet to taste defeat despite finishing as runners up to eventual Group 2 winners Chicken Inn.
While predicting a tough battle between FC Platinum and Highlanders, Mhango thinks Brian Banda should be Bosso’s biggest worry during Saturday’s encounter.
“Since Brian Banda hit top form FC Platinum started to create more chances,” Mhango said.
“If we can look after him, I think we can win the game. Brian Banda is the one that makes FC Platinum play.
“All the same, I think we are ready to book our place in the semi-final but we need to plan around him so that we cut the supply chain.”
Ironically Brian Banda is a former Highlanders player and Winston Mhango is a former FC Platinum player.
“It will be tough on Saturday, both teams are in good form. The game is bigger than the occasion I guess this was every fan’s dream final,” added Mhango.
Meanwhile, Pure Platinum Play foward Silas Songani believes his side are making tremendous progress under coach Norman Mapeza.
“So far so good. We would have liked to win every game that we have played so far but it is work in progress.
“Since I have been here, I have seen that the team is willing to work hard and buy into what the coach is willing to do. On match days, you can see that we are willing to stick to our game plan.
“We are creating chances but need to start converting more. We can take a lot from the last three games. We know what areas we need to work on and we are improving in training,” said Songani.
The game is live on ZTN at 3pm and you can also follow the live radio commentary on YAFM here
