ANC expels rebellious Ace Magashule for violating party constitution

The African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa announced on Monday that it has expelled former secretary general Ace Magashule from the party after finding him guilty of violating its constitution.

JOHANNESBURG – The African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa announced on Monday that it has expelled former secretary general Ace Magashule from the party after finding him guilty of violating its constitution.

Magashule had been suspended from the day-to-day activities of the ANC in May 2021, following the implementation of stricter regulations for party members facing corruption charges.

In a failed attempt to exert his authority as secretary general, Magashule sought to suspend President Cyril Ramaphosa shortly after his own suspension.

However, the ANC maintained that Magashule’s actions were not within his jurisdiction.

The ANC’s disciplinary committee conducted an investigation and found Magashule guilty of multiple violations of the party’s constitution.

These violations included a failure or refusal to adhere to party policies, resolutions, and regulations.

The decision to expel Magashule, who aligns himself with the faction led by former ANC leader Jacob Zuma, was reached after he failed to provide a response as to why he should not be expelled from the party, according to an official statement from the ANC.

Magashule was not immediately available for comment regarding the expulsion.

The expulsion of Magashule marks another significant development within the ANC, highlighting the party’s efforts to combat corruption and maintain discipline among its members.
