PRETORIA – South African club Mamelodi Sundowns has parted ways with coach Rulani Mokwena after reaching an agreement in recent days.
Masandawana announced the news on their official social media platforms as they thanked the highly rated young coach and wish him well in his future endeavours.
โThe decision was taken by the board, taking into account the objectives and expectations of the club, and was not influenced or based on the recommendations of any individual associated with the club,โ Sundowns said.
The club also announced that Manqoba Mngqithi, who was Mokwena’s first assistant, will continue preparing the team for the coming season while a new coach is expected to be appointed soon.
Speculation was rife in recent day that the 37-year-old coach Rulani was going to leave Sundowns after a rumoured disagreement with the club hierarchy.
According to inside information at the club, an altercation between Mokwena and Mamelodi Sundowns sporting director Flemming Berg was the reason Rulani walked away from his four year contract after only a year.
Rulani is not new to controversy with his temper issues being a matter of public record and the latest drama comes as no surprise to football faithfuls in South Africa.
