HARARE, Zimbabwe – CAPS United, the Zimbabwean football club, has decided to put on hold its pursuit of Herentals winger Tino Benza.
The Green Machine had expressed interest in acquiring the 22-year-old player following an impressive season with Herentals.
However, informal discussions between CAPS United President Farai Jere and Herentals owner, Innocent Benza, the father of Tino Benza, have hit a snag.
Jere confirmed the development, stating, “We have been discussing something along those lines with Honourable Benza. It’s an idea that we have been pushing, but for now, I don’t think it’s still feasible because the father raised the point that there is some possible deal outside the borders that they are looking at.”
While the negotiations are currently on hold, CAPS United is exploring alternative options to strengthen its squad.

Jere emphasized that the club aims to prioritize the best interests of the player and respects the potential opportunities Benza may be considering.
Jere expressed the club’s perspective, saying, “CAPS United, as a big institution, could provide a platform where he could be noticed easily and an environment that is highly competitive. It augurs well with his talent, but we have to put the best interests of the player ahead.”
Tino Benza, a two-time Soccer Star of the Year finalist, had been seen as a valuable addition to CAPS United’s strike-force for the upcoming season.
The club is now considering other options to bolster its squad, with the recruitment process being led by the technical team under the guidance of Lloyd Chitembwe.
CAPS United, which finished eighth in the previous season, is determined to improve its performance in the upcoming campaign.
While Benza’s potential move is on hold, the club is reportedly exploring other targets and focusing on strengthening its squad for the challenges ahead.
